Zinfandel | Ivy Glenn Vineyard, Sonoma AVA

From: $0.00

Ivy Glen Vineyard was planted to wine grapes around 1900 with standard varieties, including Zinfandel. This amounts to about 16% of the wine. The remaining wine grape source was planted under our management after 1972.

The vineyard is located in Sonoma Mountain AVA. Elevation is between 758-834 feet facing southeast. Frost is rare. Protection is by temperature inversion and hillside air drainage. Leaf and shoot thinning is done by hand. The vines are drip irrigated and planted in Sonoma volcanic soil.

About Zinfandel

Zinfandel is a variety of red grape planted in over 10 percent of California vineyards. It originated in Croatia as Crljenak Kaštelanski. The Primitivo variety was introduced  in Puglia Italy in the 18th century. The grape found its way to the United States in the mid-19th century, and called Zinfandel.

The grapes typically produce a robust red wine. The taste of the red wine depends on the ripeness of the grapes from which it is made. Red berry fruit flavors like raspberry predominate in wines from cooler areas, whereas blackberry, anise and pepper notes are more common in wines made in warmer areas.
