Syrah | Columbia Gorge AVA, Oregon

From: $0.00

The Syrah from Mosier, Oregon represents the eastern, warmer end of the Columbia Gorge. Grown in a basalt bowl filled with the sediment from historical floods, it provides sandy, dusty soils and a reflective sun from its rock walls. The grapes yielded approximately 2 tons to the acre. White Salmon Vineyard Winery has produced wine this exceptional fruit since 2013 with great success.

Winemaking Thoughts

Our destemmer allows  many berries to pass unbroken. If you are shooting for a BIG, long-lived Syrah, you may leave the stem jacks in, otherwise, have a pail available to pluck the obvious from the fermenting must. Consider your hand and arm the best push down device – staying in touch!! Produces an extraordinary single varietal wine. Also blends very well with  Grenache from the same vineyard.

Try The Wine

Try the 2013 Syrah from White Salmon Vineyard that was awarded a Gold metal at the Seattle wine awards in 2016. Stay tuned for future releases including a Grenache/Syrah.

Vineyard

Mosier Syrah Field

We offer Syrah, Grenache, Rosé, and Sauvignon Blanc from this stunning vineyard, located in the Eastern Columbia Gorge AVA. The vineyard is primarily composed of sandy soil mixed with clay. It’s close proximity to the river protects the vines from frost. The low elevation provides sufficient warmth to ripen their selected varietals.

The Mosier Syrah is grown in a relatively cool area. This particular Syrah field is in a basalt hole sheltered from the strong prevailing winds. The basalt container walls reflect the heat onto the vines and the loess soil they are rooted in. This is a special place that gives life to special grapes.
