Reevaluation – Exceptional Grapes May Be Within Reach

August 5, 2026

Brehm Vineyards grapes have been made into some of the finest wines in America, often among the first to champion new regions. I started selling grapes from Carneros grower René di Rosa in 1971, when most of Napa said it was too cold. I realized that many Western wine growers underestimated cool-climate sites. We shared fine grapes at non-famous prices, as we do now with the Columbia Gorge. The grape business is in flux. It is almost as if the candy store door has been opened for you. Grapes [Read More]

Winter Pruning Underway | Guiding the Next Vintage

March 6, 2026

Our vineyard crew began pruning at White Salmon Vineyard on February 4th, taking advantage of this unusually mild winter. Pruning marks the first actionable step of the new vintage. While the vines rest in dormancy, we cut back last year's growth to guide the vine’s energy toward producing fruit in the fall. Timing matters. We prune before temperatures warm and the sap begins to flow. During dormancy, the vines are more pliable and less vulnerable to disease. Each cut creates a small opening [Read More]

Clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon

September 4, 2025

We are excited to announce our return to V75 Vineyard for Cabernet. Nestled in the Columbia Valley on southwestern-facing slopes overlooking the Columbia River, this site offers more than spectacular views. The vine orientation and proximity to the river expose the vineyard to steady winds, which strengthen the vines, concentrate flavors, and enhance tannin structure. Clone 4, originally from Mendoza and championed by Beaulieu Vineyard in Rutherford after a 14-year study, thrives here. [Read More]

New Sangiovese & Merlot

August 28, 2022

This has been a most unusual harvest from both a climatic and business perspective. Brehm Vineyard's Northwest harvest is on track, but later than in the recent past. Grapes got off to a late start after a chilly spring. The accumulated heat of the past two months has brought us on to a more normal cycle. We are running about 13 days behind the early harvest of last year. The grapes are progressing beautifully and the vineyards are strong. Our existing inventory is moving fast. Brehm’s own [Read More]
