General Shipping Information
For all frozen grape orders, Brehm Vineyards will work with our customers to ship their orders to them in a timely and cost effective manner. Each customer’s order is unique as are their shipping requirements. For this reason, shipping costs are not included in the price of our frozen grapes.
Each of our frozen pails weighs 50 lbs and each frozen drum weighs 425 lbs. Due to the size of our products, our shipping methods are limited.
Frozen Pails can be shipped by FedEx (from our Richmond CA and Chicago IL freezer locations only) to U.S. locations. Unfortunately, we cannot ship pails via FedEx outside of the United States. See below for more information on FedEx below.
Frozen Pails and drums can also be shipped by truck transportation using carriers that have refrigerated containers. Frozen Drums can only be shipped by truck due to their size.
Shipping costs can change at anytime. Truck companies add fuel surcharges and other fees (security charges, insurance charges) to the final cost of shipping. All these factors contribute to the total shipping cost of frozen grape order.
These accounts provide us (usually) with shipping rates lower than that of the casual or off-the-street shipper. These lower costs are passed on to our customers. Brehm Vineyard’s charges a $50 handling fee when Brehm Vineyards make shipping arrangements and pre-pays for a frozen grape order to be shipped to the customer.
There is no handling fee for grape orders that are picked up by the customer at the freezer facility or when shipping arrangements are made and paid for by the customer.
FedEx Ground Shipping
Brehm Vineyards offers FedEx ground shipping to locations throughout the United States. Residential Delivery is available Monday through Saturday. Commercial/Business delivery is Monday through Friday.
Only our pails can be shipped by FedEx. Pails are put into a plastic bag and then put in a cardboard box with 2 inches of styrofoam insulation surrounding the pail. To cover our costs for the shipping materials, we charge $20 per pail plus the actual FedEx shipping costs. (Please note that if our pails are not in a box for shipment, FedEx will charge a special handling charge that is more than $20 per pail. If the box is left sealed it can hold a temperature below 50F for up to a week.)
FedEx shipments from Richmond CA can be arranged Monday through Friday with advance notice. FedEx shipments from Chicago IL are only shipped on Wednesdays.
The trucks contracted by Brehm Vineyards will pick up and deliver frozen grape orders in a 40 to 53 foot trailer capable of refrigeration to sub-zero temperatures. A fully loaded truck weighs about 25 tons. In order to accept a delivery from one of these truck carriers, a customer will need to make arrangements for a delivery to a location with a truck delivery dock and/or a forklift. In most cases, these refrigerated truck companies CANNOT deliver to a residence.
Within California from our Richmond freezer location only (where transit times are 1-3 days), we can arrange for residential truck deliveries. The trucking company that provides these services is non-refrigerated and will charge an added fee for residential delivery.
Because of the special nature of our product and the unique shipping situations of each customer, Brehm Vineyards must coordinate shipping arrangements with each customer individually.
Cost of Truck Shipments
The cost of truck shipments are based on the weight of the shipment and the distance between the pick up location and drop off location. There are other charges such as gas, and special pick up or delivery instructions that will add to the total shipping cost.
Brehm Vineyards is located on the west coast of the United States and most shipments will originate from Chicago, Illinois freezer or Richmond, CA freezer.
In order to provide a customer with a specific rate for their order, the delivery location must first be secured. When we talk to the truck companies, we must provide them with the pick up location, delivery location, as well as how much weight and / or pallet spaces are to be shipped.
Less than Truck Load (LTL) carriers will have a minimum charge for a shipment. This minimum charge is usually for 1 pallet space of product shipped from between 1 and 1500 pounds. After this minimum weight, which will vary by truck company, charges are usually incurred at a per pound rate.
