Alexander Valley Syrah / Shiraz
Over the past five years we have been receiving rave reviews about this mountain top Syrah. The one critical ingredient needed to achieve a clean, intense wine is yeast food. The juice has a very low YAN indicating nutritional deficiencies in the must for yeast to grow and prosper. (YAN is Yeast Available Nitrogen.) This nitrogen deficiency is a plus in the vineyard and eventual wine. Syrah is a very aggressive growing vine, wanting to make you happy with much wood, leaves and grapes. Poor, extremely rocky soil allows good root penetration and drainage, while keeping the syrahs loving instincts in check. Perched on the western crest of Alexander Valley it overlooks the Dry Creek Valley to the west. There is nothing higher. The eastern slope and eastern crest, overlooking Seghesio's home ranch and Silver Oak Wine Cellars is ours. Matures fairly early for Syrah. Our former harvests show consistent high quality.
